Lent and Temptation ~ Psalm 90

The readings in the Mass today, Extraordinary Form for Sunday, February 17th, in a way relate to these pictures I am posting. They come from a children's series I had as a child, on the Psalms. My daughter just started reading these books during Lent and like her I found myself pausing to look at these images.

But first, the scriptures...Psalm 90 is quoted today in the Gradual, verses 11-12.
God hath given His angels charge over Thee, to keep Thee in all Thy ways. In their hands they shall bear Thee up, lest Thou dash Thy foot against a stone.

The Gospel was from St. Matthew 4:1-11 about Jesus being tempted in the desert.

The Offertory, again from Psalm 90 , verses 4-5
The Lord will overshadow Thee with his shoulders, and under His wings thou shalt trust: His truth shall compass thee with a shield.

Jesus was fortified in the desert and to us, too, He provides angels and a shield to protect our hearts.

Protect us, Lord, from every evil. Sed libera nos a malo....

I love the comfort and sweetness of knowing God has given his Angels to protect us. My children love hearing about their angels:)

Thanks Angela, and thanks for visiting and commenting.

There are times when we are so aware of our angels, aren't there? When we feel spared, when we send them to our loved ones...a great gift!

I really enjoyed visiting your beautiful blog and seeing photos of your gorgeous trip. I want to go there!

Jesus leaves with us, a tall order. Only by his grace and the protection of angels can we fulfill his calling. Thank you for your beautiful post.
