Something about Mary - Taddei Madonna

This image of Our Lady, The baby Jesus and St. John is called the Taddei Madonna (or Taddei Tondo) by Michelangelo. There is a connection to this image for me because my maternal grandmother is a Taddei. Taddeo Taddei commisioned this sculpture; he was one of Michelangelo's first patrons. It hangs in the Royal Academy in London.

I am struck by how the image comes full circle, when Mary holds her grown Son in her arms (Michelangelo's Pieta) and another John is by her side.

This time Our Lady weeps.....

Mary, our Mother in times of joyful love and in times of crushing sadness, ora pro nobis.
(See post below for how to join me in honoring Mary in her month of May.)
