The Knitting Lesson and Homeschool Art

The saying goes...Art mimics life.

We are trying to learn to knit here and YouTube is helping....not just with instructional videos.

Today, I found a great resource for art lectures on YouTube and look forward to perusing more from Clark Art Institute.

One thing leads to another...I went in search of Knitting quotes and enjoyed these:

“In the nineteeth century, knitting was prescribed to women as a cure for nervousness and hysteria. Many new knitters find this sort of hard to believe because, until you get good at it, knitting seems to cause those ailments. The twitch above my right eye will disappear with knitting practice.” ― Stephanie Pearl-McPheeAt Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much

“Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit either.” ― Elizabeth Zimmermann

It develops math skills. A knitting project is geometric.Maggie DeCuir

"Knitting, tying knots on sticks, like love, can be restful, careless, compulsive, hell-bent " - Adrian Koesters

I will have to check that out. Abigail did some knitting in a co op class a few years back. She is, by nature, an artist. I had her in classes in an art studio last year and over the summer, but our schedule has proved too hectic, and she's in middle school now and participating in Toastmasters (which is at the same time as the art class). I was just thinking this morning I need to find something in regards to art. This might even work with my 8 year old. She tends to pick up things a bit slower than most. It's worth a try, though. Thank you for this! Like you read my mind :)

Jen, I think it will be real slow with my girl. She's interested...but only in spurts. I didn't really get into it until I was older and it didn't really "take" for me.

You've inspired me to think about a summer art camp for her. Hope you are having a great day. I think the toastmaster's class sounds awesome!
