God Bless My 15 yr.old Son

Oh, this boy....

this photo taken by his 10 year old brother
Those soulful eyes have seen a lot this year.

On today, his birthday, I reflect on his 14th year. Last year, at this time, he was beginning to experience some symptoms that a week later would put him in the hospital and put us in the world of type 1, insulin dependent diabetes. A few weeks after that he started MODG 9th grade, his freshman year. One of the hardest years to transition to in the Mother of Divine Grace curriculum, he met the challenge while fighting against the side effects of blood sugar irregularities and their effect on concentration.

Although it kicked him around, although it's still a hate-able disease, I see him getting so much stronger. His maturity in handling the complexities is laudable, admirable.  And while I am in prayer over the challenges this disease has posed to his faith, this year later I am grateful that God is bringing him to greater good in spite of this struggle.  I pray this son might see that he HAS grown this year in strength and knowledge, to do things related to diabetes...and not related....with confidence and skill.

His abilities, talents and gifts make me so proud.

Lord, please bless this son today, on his birthday and always with your graces. God bless my 15 year old.

(Saint Lawrence, St. Anthony, St. Benedict, St, Michael the Archangel, St. Jose Maria Escriva, St. John of the Cross, Our Lady.... and all those saints attached and beloved by us, pray for him.)

I am always so inspired by the faith in young people who struggle with illnesses and still remain strong in their faith. Today I am inspired by your son. I thank him for that. Happy Birthday to him! Keeping him in prayer on his special day!

Allison,
We are a Catholic homeschooling family just like you with a lot of similarities. I have THREE children out of seven with T1d. I also have a four and a half year old granddaughter with T1d.
Thank you for this blog. I have only just begun blogging and still trying to learn.
Blessings to your family.
Cindy

Cindy, thank you for writing! I can not imagine how hard it would be to juggle the information and needs of 3 T1 children...God bless you!

I would like to read your blog and wonder if you are on the yahoogroup email list, CatholicT1@yahoogroups.com ? Hope you'll share your blog, too.

Again, thanks for writing, Cindy and God bless you all!
