(I intended to post this on the feast of St. John Vianney, Patron of Priests.)

There is a lovely resource for prayers for Priests that I want to share. Visit http://www.opusangelorum.org/Passio/Chaliceofstrength.html and offer a day of prayers weekly to strengthen our Priests. Let me know if you'd like one of the prayer books.

Here's one of the prayers...

Prayer for the Chalice of Strength
My God and Father in heaven, that night in the Garden, on the Mount of Olives, your Son told Peter: "Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, who will promptly send more than twelve legions of angels to my defense?" (Mt 26:53).
Father, we ask you now: send these twelve legions of angels with chalices of strength out into the Gethsemane of the Holy Church to defend and assist our priests, who, strengthened by the power and presence of these angels, may faithfully fulfill their priestly missions. Amen
.

My weekly tradition is to pray this booklet of prayers in front of Our Lord at a Saturday morning Holy Hour. I also offer my Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary for Priests with the following intentions...

The Annunciation - that the Priests I pray for would see the Blessed Virgin Mother as their Mother and model for humility, willing to do God's will.

The Visitation - that the Priests I pray for would see the Blessed Virgin Mother as their Mother and model for self-sacrifice, putting others ahead of themselves to "bring Jesus" to other. And that Our Lord and Our Lady would grant our Priests the strength and grace to do so.
The Nativity - that the Priests I pray for would not be attracted to "the world" and it's materialistic messages but rather see the message of the Incarnation, that true riches are to be found in Jesus Christ, born in a humble stable.

The Presentation - that the Priests I pray for would see Our Lady and St. Joseph as role models for obedience to the church and that they too would obey the Church's traditions and Magisterial teachings.

The Finding of the child Jesus after 3 days - that the Priests I pray for would have the grace and joy in "finding Jesus" EVERYDAY and especially in their devotion to the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

Hope you'll join me.

I would love one of the booklets. Our parish is starting Perpetual Adoration & I would love to use these prayers for our priests. Besides, the son I homeschool (in high school now), wants to be a priest, so he would enjoy praying these prayers as well. By the way, I love your blog. We haven't been to a Latin mass yet but we are anxious to do so soon...

And thanks!
