I can't watch this video! Just to think about this day brings me to tears. My husband and I cried for months.

I remember clearly, a few days afterward, standing in our yard when jets flew over our house. It was the only noise of the day. Trains stopped. Busses didn't go into the city. Most people stayed home. And obviously no air traffic. It was very eery and sad. A neighbor's wife came to our door. Her husband just learned that he lost a friend in the attack, and they identified his body by the watch he gave him, which he engraved for him. It was one of many sad stories we heard from friends...some of them there, and they told us their story of walking home over the Brooklyn Bridge, in a large pilgrimage with thousands of others, watching their city in ashes.

And imagine all those firefighters and police officers whose bravery drew them into the storm! May we and our children be inspired by their selflessness!

May we as a nation always observe Sept. 11 as a day of prayer, for the lives lost and the families who lost them!!

Thank you, Allison!

Oh, I remember that video and I can't watch it right now (for fear that I'll cry and wake the kiddies:)

I think this was my generation's moment of the world stopping (akin to the assasination of JFK or Martin Luther King Jr.) but on a much more national scale. What utter violence and destruction, so many innocent lives lost and gone. No, I will not forget, and will pray for these victims today.

And I agree with Kathleen above, I remember the eerie feeling I got whenever any plane flew overhead for the next week or so after 9/11. It was like my whole world was coming undone and I didn't know what was going to happen next. Come to think of it...I still don't.

I lived in the DC area at that time. I remember how shocked and grieved I was for the enormous loss of life -- from the moment I watched the second tower go down on television. (The first one collapsed before I got to the t.v.) The tension and the edginess those of us living there had lasted for months after the attacks. That feeling lingers in my memory.

What a blessing that for your own family life was taken up in the goodness of new life so soon after the attacks. It helps so much when there is birth after disaster, doesn't it? An affirmation of all that is good amidst the suffering.

This doesn't compare to 9/11, but my daughter was born the day after Obama won the 2008 election. I was so grieved about the election, but was soon too occupied to give it much thought (though my OB was lamenting the election results among the hospital staff as he sewed me up from my C-section, threatening to leave the country!).

Thank you for sharing that beautiful video tribute!

Thank you all for sharing these memories of that day....

Interesting how for so many of us the sound of an airplane above still makes us think.
