Spec. Bleeping. Tacular!
I don't know what the judges were thinking or hearing. Maybe it's because I'm not into country music but I thought what Adam did with Ring of Fire was transcendent! I bet it could be a successful single today. It was new and captivating and true to his style and the best thing I've heard....maybe ever...on A.I.
He is a star!

That was truly gutsy of him! I liked it!
Too funny Allison! IMHO, I thought it was kind of freakish but he is entertaining to say the least. I am not sure what the judges heard when they listened to Megan though? She needs to go.
I must admit to having an inner freak.
It's the juxtapositions and contradictions in our personalities that make us three dimensional, dontch think?
I have not been following AI..boy Simon is meeeean!
I think this guy is cute and can sing...he gets my vote!
Here's my "judgment": I truly appreciate all types of music and I did take a few music appreciation classes and enjoyed every song for many reasons in these classes. I found a few kids in the classes hating certain types of music and totally not going to convert even for a nano-second. Narrow minded music folks. Appreciation does not necessarily mean liking it and queueing up for the cd's. Anyhoo, I am not a huge fan of country music, but there are plenty songs I do like. Ring of Fire is one I do like. Immiately I had to turn off my expectations. That's the key to judging this stuff. If he was going to just cover it the way songs are basically covered, I would have judged much more harshly. However, he did something completely unexpected and it worked. I'm not following AI this year, but this was a nice suprise. He really did well - and if this were a single, I'd probably buy it. It was very Erasure-ish, yeah? Very nice.
I love him, but I was really disapointed last night!
Maybe it's because I LOVE Country Music... LOL!
I was totally blown away by Kris, Lil, Danny and Matt. Especially Matt, though. I thought Anoop did good too!
When I say I'm not "into" Country music, please know I do appreciate it. In fact, I have 2 Randy TRavis CDs coincidently and a Johnny Cash. It's just not where I connect to the most.
I think your analysis, Sarah, is very accurate. I'm reminiscing a little INXS on Adam. He's Micheal Hutchence in some ways...
I liked it. Sort of. I love his singing; he's very talented. I like country music and Johnny Cash. Adam did what they always tell the contestants to do: make the song your own. So, he took a country song because he had to, and made it wild. I thought he was a combination of George Michael and Billy Idol! lol!
Drives me nuts when the judges yell at them for singing a song that wasn't appropriate for them and it's because of the theme of the day. Adam did the best job I ever saw of someone taking a genre that is totally not him and making it his own.
Yes, the key to hearing/listening is to kill your expectations of the presentation. On so many levels, the AI judges miss that. Really, the studio does magical things to everyone's voices and performances. I think this is where Country artists (for the most part) can outdo other artists: in the live presentation. Many are more than just vocalists. But, I will say, RUSH was a wild band that sang and played live spot-on to their recordings. It was eerie. Yes, he sounds a bit INXS-ish. I still think he's done a brill job.
We don't usually watch American Idol, but for some reason last night we did. I have to say, Adam's version was.....interesting...lol. It was different and I have to give him props for making it his own. My personal favorite was Anoop. He was wonderful with You Were Always On My Mind.
I think he is a true hotty and was awesome in his song choice!
Your video clip does not work anymore...it has copywrites I guess! Bummer...I was so excited to see it again!
Peace and Blessings,
Georgiann

Jamie, I bet you wish you could vote AGAINST him! Ha ha. This is not Survivor, and THIS is your next American Idol!
