Belly buttons

If you know me, you know what this post is about....

Umbilicaphobia.

A fear of my navel.

I don't touch my own belly button and no one else can.

Not so strange. There are many of us out there.

When my first child was born, at a baby visit my Pediatrician said my son's belly button needed cleaning. Crazy doctor said what?!

I am a respectful, polite person who defers to my doctor's knowlege, but on this occasion I probably shocked him by uncharacteristically telling him, NO! No, I would not be cleaning my son's belly button and furthermore he would... but only AFTER I left the room!

God, in His humor, decided to give me a daughter who LOVES to touch, poke, investigate, maim and tunnel her belly button.

Hold on a second....I'm near faint from what I just wrote. Let me take a few deeps breaths until the room stops spinning.

OK, I'm back.

Here she is...comforting herself....

That's how she sleeps! Is it a sleep switch she's activating?!

That's not right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My oldest son, now 14, used to do that until he was about six. I had to unsnap his onesies and sleepers so he could get his "button" or he'd crank until he fell asleep. Strange. He also made an "MMMMMMMM" humming sound.

Thankfully, the eventually stop doing it.

That has to go down in the books as "wierd things kids do"!! Aren't all kids wierd? Things like not eating anything brown things or things with brown on them, that one just popped up out of the blue. You know....those things that we think, come on, why why do you do that?

Wish my kids would sleep like that though sometimes, maybe I should tell them to put that finger in their button!!

I'm sure she will appreciate this when she is older!!

LOL :) "...crazy doctor say what?..." It's precious that she does that!

Kids do wacky things. When we first moved into our new house my daughter (then 5) decided that each night she had to remove all things "pointy" from her room. (otherwise she could NOT sleep in there) Each night I'd stand by as she loaded her closet with some of the most random things...a horse, a chair, a picture frame...??? Who knows! Finally she got beyond this crazy notion. Now we include in our prayers EVERY night...

...Lord, we know in your Word that you say, "Be not afraid, for I am with you" and we are claiming that promise right now...

Gotta love 'em!

Pee my pants funny! That's one way to keep lint from building up :)

That's hilarious!!!

The only "unique" habit floating around our family is one son who hates any kind of tag on his clothing and he hates to wear underwear. He says they're "fuzzy". I told him--no ifs, ands or buts--he HAS to wear them to church.

Yes, it is cute and it's fun to hear other wacky stories!

I am with you. I do not do belly buttons....I do not like touching my own or even my kids. If I ever do have to clean my own I take a deep breath, grab a Q-tip and clean as quickly as possible.

My daughter sounds like yours. She has no problem poking her belly button too. When she does I scream in horror for her to stop.

Cute post and cute pics of your daughter sleeping...even if her finger was in her belly button. You are brave to even take the picture!! haha. ;)

I've never heard of Belly-button phobia before...how funny! In our house the little boys have always thought their belly buttons were their "fly" buttons: I'd poke one on the button and his arms would shoot out and he'd run down the hall.

If they were "out of gas" (this may make you pass out), I'd blow a big raspberry over their belly button to "gas 'em up"!

Omg! I thought I was the only one. I was so grossed out during my pregnancy when my belly button popped out. My husband had to care for our son's navel stump after he was born. I was sooooooo relieved when it finally fell off!
