Feast of Jeanne D'Arc

12:58 PM
Joan is my Confirmation name, taken with my admiration of St. Joan of Arc and also for my maternal grandmother ,who shares this middle name.

When I lived in NYC, I loved visiting "her". At the Met you could stare into her eyes the painting is so large. When I left NYC, "she" came with me and has remained over my mantle ever since.

Joan reminds us to be brave for God, to pray for the brave... and to listen to the Holy voices of our friends, the saints.

Prayer to St. Joan of Arc For Faith

In the face of your enemies, in the face of harassment, ridicule, and doubt, you held firm in your faith. Even in your abandonment, alone and without friends, you held firm in your faith. Even as you faced your own mortality, you held firm in your faith. I pray that I may be as bold in my beliefs as you, St. Joan. I ask that you ride alongside me in my own battles. Help me be mindful that what is worthwhile can be won when I persist. Help me hold firm in my faith. Help me believe in my ability to act well and wisely. Amen.

Happy Name's Day!

Do you think St. Joan has suffered a downgrading of sorts since the Little Flower rose in popularity?

Fascinating idea Brendan and thanks for visiting. This sounds like a topic worthy of some research and blogging! You should write about it.

I tend to think of Terese as less tortured than Jane. Jane seems bolder and called to action where Terese was also sacrificial, but in her "little" way.

I'd love to hear more about your thoughts.

My eldest son will be writing a book report based on Joan. For some reason, Joan D'Arc always holds his interest. So, when he suggests finding a paitron saint, who do I think he'll finally choose? Joan.

Happy Feast Day to you! Thanks for posting the picture - that was always my favorite at the Met and I haven't seen it in years. Simply breathtaking!
