Where are all the Nativities?

11:22 AM
Here's a Christmas tradition to share...but it's a secret, don't tell our neighbors!

On Friday, the kids will each make a certificate. A 1st prize, a 2nd prize, a 3rd prize and a 4th prize scroll to honor neighborhood decorations. They will really go "all-out" in decorating their awards. (The kids will reach into a hat for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th place designations.)

Then, this weekend , with Christmas carols playing we'll drive around in the van under stealth of night and place awards in mailboxes. I have my own little job. I write thank you notes. These notes say something to this effect....

Thank you neighbor for displaying your outside Nativity this Christmas. We are grateful to see Jesus and the Holy Family recognized as being the most important "decoration" of Christmas. May God bless you for your witness!

Last year we were able to give out a half dozen thank you notes. This year I have seen only one Nativity, other than ours in our neighborhood. Where are all the Nativities?

PUT IT OUT THERE CHRISTIANS!

O come, O come Emmanuel.....

That is a great idea. It is very sad though about the lack of nativities. I don't think I have seen one yet here in our little town.

What a wonderful idea and a great lesson for your children.

There are a few nativity one's here but they are getting more rare as folks concentrate on Santa.

Christmas is about Jesus not 'santa'.

Peace, JOY & Merry Christmas:)

This is a great idea! I haven't seen many in neighborhoods around here either. I have my heart set on a large-sized Fontannini set (like our in-house one) that we could build a "real" wooden stable around and shine a spotlight on. But they're so expensive! Maybe in the after-Christmas sales?

God Bless,
Jane

Jane, this is my husband's hope too! That someday, with a good sale, we could get a really elaborate manger scene.

Coincedently, we *just* returned from "recess" rollerblading around the neighborhood putting Christmas cards in mailboxes and doing the clandestine count for how many Nativity scenes there are. Oh, there are soooo many lights...and countless Frosty the snowmans. It must be Frosty's birthday. In what must be a predominantly Christiam neighborhood, considering 90% or more of the house have lights and decorations, among 214 homes only 5 had the Navitity outside.

I pray there are more inside.....

This is a great idea! We see a few, but not many. We may have to do this too!

Great Idea Allison! We may have to borrow that one. How sad about your neighborhood. In our neighborhood almost every house that has lights, has a nativity. Good huh?! Unfortunately, we're not one of them =( I have a bunch inside though!!

Hi again,
I told my kids about this and they thought it was a cool idea. We decided to look around here and see what the nativity offerings in our neighborhood/community were like.
We were truly shocked to find (as we drove through our neighborhood, across three towns to get to school/church/activities) only FIVE nativities--and only ONE was in front of a home, the other four were in front of churches. Wow. I would never have even noticed that if you hadn't mentioned it. Our search continues.

God Bless,
Jane

Hello, I found your blog through Krysten. We wrote up some "thank you for decorating" notes up and went out looking at lights. We hae decided that this is our new favorite tradition. By the way we found a total of 34 nativities in our search on one evening alone. Thanks for the wonderful idea and the great time with my family.

I absolutely love this idea ~ and only wish I happened by sooner, so I could have done this over the season when we ran across Nativities. We did see many here in rural Colorado.
